Kayla Seton, People and Culture Consultant at Seton Family Lawyers, has been celebrated at the Women in Law Awards 2024, where she was awarded HR Professional of the Year and the coveted Excellence Award—the top honour of the night. Kayla received the highest number of votes from the judging panel, highlighting her exceptional approach and transformative impact on the legal profession.
Hosted at Crown Melbourne, and attended by more than 800 legal industry members, the Women in Law Awards gala celebrates the exceptional women shaping the profession’s future. Kayla’s recognition reflects her dedication to creating a workplace culture that supports her team, the firm’s clients, and the broader community.
“My husband and I took the opportunity to start a law firm where we could empower legal professionals that were not thought of as a key performance indicator or a billable hour; they were people first,” said Kayla.
“My mission is to create a supportive and inclusive culture where our team, their families, and our clients thrive together.”
Kayla’s approach to recruitment prioritises character, soft skills, and alignment with the firm’s values over traditional credentials, creating a diverse and dynamic team. This progressive thinking extends to the Ironbark Initiative, launched in 2023, which addresses the mental health challenges unique to family law professionals. The program offers financial resources and dedicated time for employees to prioritise their wellbeing—challenging the traditional norms of the legal industry.
